Coalition supports MoCo's Bring Your Own Bag Bill

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025 the Montgomery County Council heard testimony from over twenty presenters on Bill 24-24, Bring Your Own Bag which would ban the provision of single-use plastic bags (with limited exceptions) by retailers in the county, while charging 10 cents for paper bags.

Karen Metchis provided a testimony on behalf of Climate Coalition Montgomery County in support of the Bill, with suggestions for amendments. Please find the testimony here.
Other organizations that provided a testimony to support the Bill included Beyond Plastics MoCo, Friends of Sligo Creek, Nature Forward, Trash Free Maryland, Zero Waste MoCo, Sierra Club MoCo, Anacostia Watershed Society, Oceana , Stormwater Partners Network, One Montgomery Green, Clean Water Action.
The bill is scheduled to be taken up by the Transportation and Environment Committee on February 3, with consideration by the full Council in late February/early March.
